This past weekend we were able to purchase a “new to us” van for Hannah Helps thanks to Ryan Johnson and the generosity of Jon Green Family Auto. We have a somewhat unique connection with them as we visited their new store for its grand opening, with Hannah, just a few weeks before we lost her. We typically don’t visit car dealers for family fun, but the Green family did something very special, they had free helicopter rides!!! Yes, our last family adventure with Hannah was taking a helicopter ride! I had just gone to the gas station to fill up some cans for our lawnmower, when a helicopter from Chemair Helicopters landed in the empty lot between the gas station and the dealership. Needless to say, that gets any guy’s attention! So, I drove over and asked about what was happening, and the people there explained that the Green Family Auto was offering free rides to everyone. I quickly ran home, grabbed the family, and we hurried back to get in line. A few minutes later, we all had an amazing time riding around in a real helicopter! It was a special family adventure, and it certainly was a memorable moment with Hannah as a family.
With all the driving that we do, we needed a vehicle for Hannah Helps itself. We have been using our own, personal vehicle, but the miles, the wear and tear, and the gas were all taking a toll on us. We live in a pretty centralized location for all our opportunities, but every time we go somewhere, we drive at least an hour each way. Downtown Madison, Milwaukee, Green Bay, Rockford, Chicago, Wisconsin Rapids, are all places that we drive to “normally,” and we could drive even further as opportunities arise. More of Wisconsin, Illinois, and even the Upper Peninsula of Michigan are all within our volunteer area for UW and Versiti. We are very excited to have this “new” Honda Odessey, and we are very thankful for the Jon Green Family Auto. They didn’t just help us get a vehicle; they helped us make a very memorable family moment with Hannah that we will never forget.
