Busy Summer Part I

We have had some amazing opportunities lately and these will be broken up into two posts. One of these opportunities was the chance to speak to a group of nurses at a prominent hospital in our state. (Because we are in other organization’s facilities and acting as their guests, we will not be specific, and we do not take pictures.) We had a great time sharing Hannah’s Story with them, and we had a special time of discussion afterwards. Hannah’s Story really connects in the medical community. As we shared her story, we also took the opportunity to tell them about the amazing nurses that we had during that week in ICU, and about the significance, value, and impact that they, as nurses, have with patients and their families. It was also great to meet one of the nurses specifically. She is a recent graduate of Maranatha and was there, at MBU, when this all happened with Hannah. It’s always nice to meet and hear from students who were impacted by Hannah’s life as a student and even now through Hannah Helps.

The second opportunity that we had was to hold a Do It For Dillon training at our church this past Saturday. We had a good turnout, especially during this busy summertime. This training I had more time to share Hannah’s Story than normal, so I went without a script… My speaking went pretty well, then we jumped right into the training. Everyone had a good time learning about allergies, anaphylaxis, and the use of Epi. They all practiced with each of our training devices on each other, and on themselves. Everyone took this seriously, and they all graduated. Our friend Elizabeth is a nurse, and she has been gracious enough to help us with the actual training. Although we could do the training ourselves, we feel that there is much more value in a medical professional doing the teaching than there is in us doing it. We each do our part and it seems to work very well!

After the training we stopped at a local restaurant to eat, and someone asked us what our Hannah Helps shirts were about as we were about to leave. I shared a shortened version of Hannah’s Story with them and then about Hannah Helps. They were moved by her story, and we were grateful to have yet another unexpected opportunity. Speaking of shirts, we made a few Hannah Helps t-shirts. They come in black or light gray and are available for a donation of $25 to Hannah Helps. If you would like one, please email us at hannahhelps19@gmail.com.

Thank you to everyone who came on Saturday to learn and support us. It is encouraging when people come for two reasons. The first is because through people attending, we can see the impact that Hannah’s life is still having today. Next, we see that there are people who are taking allergies seriously and are willing to take time out of their busy schedules to educate and prepare themselves. Finally, we appreciate the support that we, ourselves, receive as we use Hannah Helps to make a difference through our loss. Again, thank you all for coming and for your continuing support. We are taking advantage of the regular opportunities that God is putting into our path, and we look forward to continuing the work that began with that one bite of brownie.

We are blessed.
