If Only One

By Janean

As time continues to move on, and as the Lord lays on our hearts what to write in these posts, it may seem that we are becoming repetitive. However, just about everyday we gain a new friend or hear from a new person that has come across Hannah’s Story through our posts or website.

Bringing just one person to the understanding of their need of salvation is very important to Jesus. He speaks about it in parables throughout the Bible. A parable is a short story that uses everyday life to make Jesus’s teachings applicable to an individual’s life and reveal a deeper understanding about God’s love, His kingdom, and our responsibility here on earth.

Let’s quickly look over the verses about the lost sheep found in Luke 15:3-7, “And He spoke this parable unto them, saying, What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if you lose one of them, don’t you leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until you find it? And when you have found it, you lay it on your shoulders, rejoicing. And when you come home, you call together your friends and neighbors, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost. I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repents, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.”

A shepherd would have hundreds of sheep to look out for, but when one would go astray, the shepherd would go looking for that one sheep. When the shepherd found it, they would pick it up, place it on their shoulders, and carry the sheep back to the fold. They wouldn’t complain about the extra time that was wasted in searching for the straggler, they would rejoice about finding it!

We have all gone astray, just like sheep do, because of sin. We are all in need of a Shepherd to come help us back to the fold. If only one sheep turns away from the pull of sin, and begins to follow the Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ, there is great rejoicing in heaven as it says in the final verse.

This is how I feel about what we are doing. If only one person reads our post and finds new life in Jesus Christ, I rejoice. If only one person who already knows the Lord, but maybe is not living for Him, turns their life around and follows God, I rejoice. If only one person’s life is saved from anaphylaxis because of training people on the use of life saving devices, I rejoice. If someone is willing to give up something they can’t keep and save up to eight people’s lives through organ donation, I rejoice. If only one person reads a Hannah Tract, I rejoice. We pray that as the Lord keeps opening doors, we will continue to find His lost sheep and guide them safely back to His fold.

We are blessed
