I Saw Jesus in You

By Janean

A year ago today, Hannah, alongside her brothers, sang a special at church for the last time. They sang “I Saw Jesus in You”. A song written by Ron Hamilton dedicated to the memory of his father. His father, Melvin Hamilton, was known as a quiet, gentle, godly man. Family and friends gave witness to the fact that Melvin was dedicated to his God and his family.

Every born-again believer in Jesus Christ has someone that showed them the truths of God’s love and sacrifice for them. I have heard that on average a single person is given the Gospel seven times before they understand and accept God’s free gift of salvation. Some people plant the seed and others water and help it to grow. For me, my brother was the one who planted the seed. Through others in my life, my parents, Sunday School teachers, pastors, and most especially my Grandpa Housley, were the waterers. One day, I will enter heaven’s glory and find those who have gone before me. I will be able to embrace them and tell them how I saw Jesus in their lives that brought me to Salvation.

When I enter heaven’s glory

And I see my Savior’s face,

I will offer Him ten thousand years of praise.

Then I’ll find that special one

In whose life I saw God’s Son,

And through tears of joy with trembling lips these words I’ll say:

I saw Jesus in you,

I saw Jesus in you,

I could hear His voice in the words you said-

I saw Jesus in you,

In your eyes I saw His care,

I could see His love was there,

You were faithful,

And I saw Jesus in you.

All I have now about my precious daughter, Hannah, is memories. Each picture and video is priceless. The more I look at her, the more I see Christ in her. I remember several times she would pull together her stuffed animals and have a Bible time with them. She would read the Bible and tell them how much God loves us. Even as she grew older, her love for the Lord grew stronger and was evident in all aspects of her life. I remember a project she had to do for her high school Bible class, where she had to hand out a tract to ten people. Then write about the experiences. One time, we were out together, and she saw a lady wearing a shirt that I also owned. She went up to the lady and struck up a conversation about her shirt, then she just handed her a tract and told her that in her spare time she could read about how God loves her and what He did for her. Several times at church, she would look for visitors or someone who was sitting alone. She would take the time to introduce herself and make the person feel welcomed and seen. Testimony after testimony, clearly state that she would go somewhere early to read her Bible and pray for people she would meet. Even though she was not perfect, anybody that knew Hannah would have to say that they saw Jesus in her walk, talk, and life.

When Hannah officially entered heaven’s glory a year ago on November 10th, I know beyond a shadow of doubt that God expressed to her that He saw Jesus in her. She laid up treasures in heaven as it says in Matthew 6:19-20, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.” The greatest treasure and reward that Hannah received was her Father saying, “Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.” (Matthew 25:21)

When I stand before my Father

To receive my life’s reward,

and my soul is bathed in God’s eternal day

When this race on earth is run,

And God sees the works I’ve done.

More than anything I long to hear my Father say:

I saw Jesus in you,

I saw Jesus in you,

I could hear His voice in the words you said-

I saw Jesus in you,

In your eyes I saw His care,

I could see His love was there,

you were faithful,

And I saw Jesus in you.

We are blessed.
