Hannah in the Philippines

Let’s begin with a story. A young girl is born in the Philippines and loses her father at an early age. In time, her mother and her move to the United States in search of a better life, but not before she is able to make some lifelong friends, including one with a young man named Lee, her former math teacher. Around the time of her move, another girl is born in the US. She too grows and makes many close friends. As the years pass, our first girl moves from Chicago, where her mom settled, to Wisconsin and develops some health concerns. In time she learns that she will need a kidney and a pancreas, which are only available through organ donation. During this time, our second girl goes off to college where she asks God to use her life in a unique and meaningful way. The day after her nineteenth birthday and the day of that prayer, she eats one bite of a brownie that contains refined peanut flour. Because of an allergic reaction to peanut, our second girl, Hannah, loses her life, but before she passes, God leads her parents to choose organ donation for her body.

Two prior attempts had been made to give our first girl, Abby, the organs that she needed, but as complications arose during their removal, she was unable to receive these Gifts of Life. But on November 10th, the lives of these two girls meet in a deeply personal way. As Hannah’s body succumbed to the results of her allergic reaction, Abby was able to have her life saved through organ donation. Abby, and a small part of Hannah, now live together, but now their lives have intertwined in another unique way.

A few weeks ago, Hannah’s grandmother, Jan, heard of a family friend who was going to the Philippines on a mission trip. Andrew has been a faithful servant for God in his personal life, in his home church, and overseas. Now God has used him yet again in a special way. While on his trip to the Philippines last week, Andrew was able to take Hannah Story Tracts with him. As he helped serve with a missionary there, some of these were shared with people at the church and others that they met on the street, but not all of them. Through their connecting on Facebook, Andrew was also able to meet with Lee, Abby’s friend for so many years. They were meeting so that Andrew could personally deliver the story of Hannah’s life to Abby’s dear friend Lee. Lee quickly shared some of these with people at the airport, and the others he is taking back home to share with more people whose lives can be affected by this unique meeting of Hannah and Abby in the US. And now, Hannah and Abby both share a “life” in the Philippines too. We are always amazed at how broad the impact that Hannah’s life is becoming. Truly God has answered her prayer shortly before that fatal bite, and He is using her life in a unique and meaningful way!

We are blessed
