The Last Bite

A few weeks ago, someone shared a video with us that we found to be pretty amazing. It’s called The Last Bite, and it was made by a high school student named Braxton Kimura. This video talks about his life as a person with food allergies and the constant struggle that he faces. The video opens with one of the news headlines about Hannah’s passing. We have been able to contact Braxton, and he is happy that we are sharing his video, and we are looking forward to being able to work with him in the future on allergy awareness things. He seems like an exceptional young man! He is currently preparing for college soon and is also raising awareness of a bill called SB68 in his home state of California. This bill would require restaurants to clearly post the presence of the nine major food allergens on their menus. These allergens are: 1. Milk 2. Eggs 3. Fish, including, but not limited to, bass, flounder, and cod 4. Crustacean shellfish, including, but not limited to, crab, lobster, and shrimp 5. Tree nuts, including, but not limited to, almonds, pecans, and walnuts 6. Wheat 7. Peanuts 8. Soybeans 9. Sesame. He and the other supporters of the bill are trying to promote transparency in the food service industry to help customers avoid being served an allergen by mistake. If this bill is passed, it could then be used as a template for other states to follow.
