Some time ago, people were telling us that they needed the Hannah Story Pamphlet in Spanish too. With Spanish being such a common language, even here in our own community, we understood that they were right. Or course we know nothing about this kind of thing, so we contacted Tim Carpenter, with Bearing Precious Seed in Oshkosh, and presented him with the question, “Can you translate these pamphlets into Spanish?” He said “no,” but I know someone who can. He sent me the contact information for Carrie Guevara. Carrie is a professional translator and a Christian. When I sent her the email asking if she could help with this, she enthusiastically said “YES.” She was out of the country at that time, but as soon as she returned, she got right on it and did a great job (So I’ve been told from people who can read Spanish 😊)! Carrie also traveled with Tim Carpenter and others with BPS, on their mission trips this summer. So, again, not only is she a great translator, she’s an active believer too!
After getting her translation back, I sent it to some friends in the Chicago area who are fluent in Spanish. They read it and said that Carrie had done a great job. So, next it went to Tim Carpenter, and he began laying it out in the trifold pamphlet form. With the formatting done, he sent it back to me and I sent it back to Carrie for final approval. Carrie said that when documents transfer between programs, things like spelling can be affected. She found two things that had been changed, so we notified Tim and he made the corrections. Tim travels a lot, and BPS is very busy! He put the Spanish Hannah Tract on their “TO DO” board, but it has taken a while for them to be able to squeeze them in.
Yesterday we had the opportunity to go up to Bearing Precious Seed to help print and fold our first printing of the Hannah Story Pamphlet in Spanish. We always enjoy being able to go and serve the Lord at this amazing ministry. Janean’s parents also came, and we were able to get 2,000 of these done in English and 3,000 in Spanish! Janean primarily worked on the tracts while the rest of us helped work on their other main project right now. The volunteers had recently completed 44,000 bilingual copies of John and Romans and now they are working on 25,000 French New Testaments for Cameroon in Central Africa. Josh and I did binding, Janean did the tracts, and Robert and Janean’s parents worked on collating the French New Testaments. We had a great time, as always!
Today we begin sending out the first 1,000 of these tracts in Spanish and are also sending out 1,100 more in English! Maybe we will be back there in Oshkosh sometime soon?!?!?! While watching the tracts coming out of the folding machine, this thought did hit us though, “It was only a few months ago that we were here with Hannah, working together, side by side, in person, for her birthday.
